The Coal Tit is one of the smallest birds in Portugal! This tiny bird weighs just 9-10 grams (0.32 tp 0.35 ounces). They are outgoing and friendly and often will be one of the first visitors to a new bird feeder. They like sunflower seeds, suet, and mealworms.

Among the birds commonly seen here are the little bittern, purple heron, marsh harrier, mallard, pintail, teal and Savi's warbler. Travelling further south brings us to the Tagus and Sado estuaries, both very popular winter wetlands for must-see water birds like the greater flamingo.

There are 153 species to spot, including storks, avocets, sand pipers, mallards and the ever popular flamingos. Because the reserve is a permanent home to some species, a seasonal refuge for others and a migratory stopping off point for yet others, it offers ornithologists a constantly changing year round panoply of sights and sounds.
